This project was the conversion of a nineteen-century house and extension into a contemporary hair salon. A traditional shopfront was fitted incorporating some quirky twists and enticing red glass pendants were hung in the windows.
The internal walls were demolished and a central spiral staircase fitted, becoming the focal point of the salon and creating a perfect circulation route. On entering from the lobby, the customer is brought into the reception area. A ramp to the left of the stairs leads to the washing area and the seven styling units move from here to the right. A step leads back down the right of the staircase to the reception again and pay point.
From the outset, the clients wanted their new hair salon to reflect their own characters and be suggestive of their creativity and imagination. Taking lead from this, the design was worked to create a warm, welcoming interior yet at the same time a bright and airy space. Walnut floors and furniture were chosen and complimented with soft red and brown leather seating. The amber walls are accented with punches of red on the feature spiral staircase curved walls and Italian mosaic tiles. Each styling mirror was custom made with red and amber leaded glass borders. Bronzed wall lights, rattan ceiling fan and Hessian tiles all help to make this a unique interior. |
